Data Science Manager

The Data Science Manager identifies opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. In addition to advanced analytic skills, this role is also proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, architecting specialized databases and computing environments, and communicating results. The Data Science Manager works closely with executive leadership to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions. Other responsibilities include providing data that is congruent and reliable. The Data Science Manager is a creative thinker that finds innovative ways to look at problems by using data mining approaches on the set of information available. The ideal candidate for this job must have a combination of business focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and programming knowledge to be able to quickly cycle hypothesis through the discovery phase of the project. This person in this role must also have excellent written and communications skills to report back the findings in a clear, structured manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with strategizing opportunities aimed at machine learning systems
• Support Executive Team by structuring data mining standards
• Extend company’s data with third-party sources of information when needed
• Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
• Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
• Perform ad-hoc analyses and present the results in a clear manner
• Create automated anomaly detection systems and constantly track its performance
• Perform additional accounting and administrative tasks as necessary

• MBA or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA/MBA preferred


• Must maintain current knowledge of and adhere to all policy and regulations of the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED); Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and TGS Management

Required Skills & Experience
• Minimum 3-5 years’ in reporting, consolidation of data and financial analysis
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in business related field
• Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms
• Experience with common data science toolkits
• Great communication skills
• Experience with data visualization tools
• Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL
• Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase
• Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
• Good scripting and programming
• Data-oriented personality
• Ability to build out financial reporting and perform sophisticated financial modeling
• Accounting/GAAP knowledge

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience using Microsoft Dynamics NAV
• Analytical Skills: Data analysts work with large amounts of data: facts, figures, and number crunching. You will need to see through the data and analyze it to find conclusions.
• Communication Skills: Data analysts are often called to present their findings or translate the data into an understandable document. You will need to write and speak clearly, easily communicating complex ideas.
• Critical Thinking: Data analysts must look at the numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings.
• Attention to Detail: Data is precise. Data analysts must make sure they are vigilant in their analysis to come to correct conclusions.
• Math Skills: Data analysts need math skills to estimate numerical data.

Physical Requirements
• Must be able to individually lift up to 25 lbs.
• Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift for long periods of time

Work Requirements

• Must be able to work in an office environment with moderate to loud noise level
• Must be able to acquire MED Support badge ($75 fee to State of CO) prior to beginning employment
