Government Relations Manager

The Government Relations Manager is a public relations specialist who coordinates legislative efforts by working with state, local, and federal governments as well as the media. This role is responsible for helping our company meet legislative goals by creating policy proposals with consultants and working with government agencies and citizens.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate consultants for state and local lobbying
  • Manage internal and external processes
  • Public speaking at events and government affairs
  • Manage communication with Congressional and Administration offices
  • Research public policy issues and write abstracts as requested
  • Draft, proof read, and edit both internal and external documents such as letters, memos, alerts, news releases, fact sheets, and reports
  • Work closely with our VP of Operations and COO to help facilitate cross-coordination on government relations (GR) efforts with other departments such as Sales, Operations, and Marketing
  • Help our Executive Team and project managers more effectively measure results and outcome on GR effort and track progress against quarterly and annual objectives and key results
  • Ensure execution of key initiatives including broad county and city engagement and clear reporting to senior stakeholders on progress and strategy
  • Spearhead efforts to develop better methods for tracking engagement and policy movement across state and local levels. This may include working with other Department Leaders or the Executive Team
  • Work with staff to track legislative and regulatory activity and help ensure that outside lobbyists are meeting targeted goals.
  • Provide strategic project management and lobbying initiative coordination for activities in key jurisdictions at the state local and federal level. Exceptional organization and project management experience in a campaign, efficiency driven organization or complex project setting.
  • Work with Executive Team to identify leverage-able strategies for expanding reach of GR platform, including coordination with product and operations on policy website and other key initiatives.

  • Bachelorís degree in a related field, or equivalent experience, required


  • Must maintain current knowledge of and adhere to all policy and regulations of the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED); Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and TGS Management

  • Command of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and to work as part of a team

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Capitol Hill and/or experience relating to organizations preferred
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with shifting workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Colorado marijuana laws, MED regulations, and CDPHE requirements; Previous marijuana industry experience preferred with priority given to candidates with experience in CO licensed facilities

  • Must be able to individually lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift for long periods of time

  • Must be able to work in an office environment with moderate to loud noise level
  • Must be able to acquire MED Key badge ($250 Fee to State of CO) prior to beginning employment
